What ways do you save money with fishkeeping?

I pee in my tank for instant cycle instead of buying liquid ammonia

Buy food from the cheapest supermarkets / markets i know of, get to know all the LFS, and equipment shop owners really well for better discounts / freeebies...

This worked for me for a short time: I asked my wife to cut up the credit cards, burn the checkbook and keep my payroll check. This worked until I couldn't take in any longer.

Now I have my payroll check directly deposited to my LFS!

^Great idea! lmao. no wonder your water is tea light color

1. buy food in bulk
2. buy only used tanks
3. buy used filters and start looking for them ahead of time, not when i need them. i e-mail people who are selling tanks and ask if they'd part with their filters/canisters seperately assure them they can still sell the tank for the same price
4. buy shrimp and filet fish from the supermarket instead of feeders, speciality pellets etc
5. buy all stock as growouts
6. So far, i've bought all driftwood straight out of the tank of going out of business sales from lfs, lmao! great money saver

I catch fish from Lake Michigan and feed it to my fish. One salmon will last a few months for my RTC and a nice filet for me! :D

here's what I do
-I turn on my lights sparingly, usually only when a guest comes over or im doing a wc.
-I buy food in bulk online
-bought my 240 used on CL, my 150 was given to me by my gf's uncle Free =]
-bargain on fish @ the lfs
-buy my gravel @ home depot for $3/40lb bag. instead of $15/25 lb @ petsmart

save money? i'll tell you how to make a small fortune in this hobby. all you have to do is start with a large fortune.
