i buy quilt batting from walmart for filtration material in my wet dry. all you have to do is cut it to size and slide it in the trays

x2 only since my mom quilts I usually hijack her scraps when i visit. bonus is it's also organic 9/10 and compleately safe.

since at our appartment water is included. I don't run carbon, and do alot of water changes. I run alot of bio-media (which rarely if ever needs replaceing, and the batting) no expensive replacement cartridges on my HOB's. just cut the back stuff off and line it with the batting.

buy pellets on sale and buy different brands. same with flakes. buy frozen in bulk size. the individual squares are nice. but flat-packs are cheaper.

and if it can be fixed, resealed, or otherwise fairly easily refurbished. I buy it for a few pennies.

And the number 1 way I save money... keep my fish alive. constantly replaceing fish from improper care/lazyness to take care of them will cost you alot more then just takeing care of them to begin with. and I also like ot grow-up my fish and buy them young (and cheap)

question ... how do you feed from flat packs??? Do you have to thaw the whole thing? I get nervous and never buy them,.

i found that to be too messy with silversides but i'd just break off what i needed and let it thaw.

Yes, supplies online (Ebay) from China or sometimes from American who bought from China.

Food on Sale...food is food. I eat and drink store brand grocery and my skin and hair is just as beautiful as the next person that eating high expensive foods and antioxidant stuff.

No water conditioner...I've stopped using it for a year now and no fish have died. Someone on MFK said that it all evaporates into air anyways...and we all have carbon or zeolite in all our filters already.

Turn off your computer when not using, lol

It doesn't get too hard?

(TWSS)

nah, once you start it they kind of just peel off in chunks...of course some end up losing their tail or breaking in half.

between the smell and taking it in and out of the freezer being too much of a hassle, i just went with filet fish from the store instead.

here's what I do
-I turn on my lights sparingly, usually only when a guest comes over or im doing a wc.
-I buy food in bulk online
-bought my 240 used on CL, my 150 was given to me by my gf's uncle Free =]
-bargain on fish @ the lfs
-buy my gravel @ home depot for $3/40lb bag. instead of $15/25 lb @ petsmart

the gravel idea is a steal and it looks great in your tank. haha. or instead of buying expensive sand from your lfs or petsmart, just buy pool filter sand. 10 dollars for a 50 lb bag.

I agree silversides are a pita but they don't come individual either, bloodworms and brineshrimp I just use a hammer.. lol.. and break off peices that i need and thaw them in a cup. I have bought smelt.. frozen it on an old cookie pan in seperate fish. then used bakeing paper and a tupperware container to store them. worked pretty good to use what I needed.

I get a 16oz flat pack of bloodworms for 10.99$ or a 4.5oz cube pack for 5.49$
