For carrying one yourself all the time, consider a Beretta 92fs with 2 15 round magazines.

Haha.. wow, you would never hear that here in Canada.
There are soo many rules just to take a pistol to a shooting range. You need a whole bunch of licenses, you need at least 2 safes, one for the gun and one for the ammo, you need to have a trigger lock and if you do decided to take it out you have to go straight to the shooting range with no detours, you cannot stop anywhere else but your house and the shooting range. Or else you get in big big trouble.

That sucks, Ive carried a pistol off and on since I was 18.

big black scary = cx-4 in nine mil.
shotty= maverick 88. Not the highest quality, but lets face it- your not going to put a thousand rouds threw a self defense shotgun. Hole it will make is the same size as any shotty. You can buy three of them for the price of one decent gun.
