What Were the Most Aggressive Cichlids You've Kept Together...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I had a 55 gallon that had 2 Jack Dempseys (4"), 5-10 Red Devils (2-5"), 3 Flowerhorn X parrot? (4"), and some convicts (2-3").

They didnt have the time to be aggressive, mostly all the fish had perfect fins, Unless I forgot to feed them.

Yes i quess since you explained it ..it is understood..we have a few crowded tanks too and working on building a new "fish room" .. because the worst thing is for fish to not be able to excape from one another.. i think your right that if you had a larger tank you would have been okay..large tanks are very forgiving in mixing and matching some of these monster fish.. my red devil was doing great in african cichlid tank for a year.. he grew so much bigger then all the others..but when i noticed he was digging his cave out i knew he was maturing and would become nasty.. he is in his own tank for now.. after the new fish room is complete maybe we will try a handful of red devils in a 125 gal.. but we will watch them carefully..also we moved our Frontosa's to their own tank.. i had them growing up with baby Lake Malwai cichlids.. they were doing fine except they lost their bright white and dark black color..so i think the other fish moved to fast for the Frontosa's...they are pretty laid back..any way they are gorgeous again in their own tank..

my 7 inches midas and my 9 inches common pleco always fight in my 55g

Midas always started fights

but both of them recover amazing fast from each fight (only take a day to recover all of their broken fins, tail and lips)

that is a lot of fishes in 55g tank...

it is amazing that those aggressive fishes dont fight each other in that size of tank...

6 texas x jag hybrids
Complete insanity they killed and eat everything (silver aro, plecos, JD, and a few dithers )in my 240 except my umbie pretty fish but :screwy:

A RD/Midas with a Butti...the butti is currently on the opposite side of a divider now to heal up while I find another tank for him. A pair of oscars and the same RD while he was younger in a 75G...he eventually snapped at adolescence and now has his own tank more or less. I currently have a 75G with a 11" oscar, pair of Jade Eyes, pair of Dempseys, Con, Nic, Mayan...and used to have a synspilus. It's not as crowded as it sounds, many of them are still fairly small. Looking for a home for the Jade eyes right now,and looking for a 55 for the Dempsey pair.

A fellow cichlid keeper around here has kept a 10" Midas, a 11" flowerhorn, 2 10" Oscars, some crazy sort of african mouth brooder (9") a 6" Jaguar, a 6" Severum, a 7" Dempsey, a 6" Texas and a 5" GT together in a tank that was way too small. Only the african was killed I think, but it didn't take him long to sell the Midas and the Flowerhorn! The rest have since been spread over a few tanks last I heard.

Tried my red terror with everything, he is totally sick. :screwy: After separating him from other cichlids. Tried him in my big boy tank. He constantly harressed, a pacu 4 times his size, bite the fins on a large redtail cat, chased a 18" albino channel cat around. Here's his pic. He's now in solitary confinement!
