what were your first thoughts when you discovered MFK?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I saw the 50,000 gallon thread, then keep reading and noticed that this same man also has a 15,000 gallon thread and thought "this guy is crazy........perfect, im in."

MFK actually got me into the fishkeeping hobby. I remeber having a couple of arowanas in the Philippines when I was younger and the hours I spent on watching it feed.

When I discovered MFK, I was like "Cool! A very informative forum with lots of nice photos!"

We ARE talking about MFK right? :) If there's a forum out there with more "you're overstocked!!11!" posts I don't want to see it.

I haven't seen that many... maybe this forum has so many options and sections I just havent found them yet :)

This place seems to say "try it and hope for the best" a lot more than others.

This place has some awesome large fish pics. Its hard to imagine some in the LFS will grow so large. It also helped my wife see why i needed a larger tank for there potential size..

that is the MAIN reason i started posting here regularly and joined this site. i had been either restricted or completely banned from a couple of other fish sites because as soon as i posted pics or talked about keeping (at the time) 2 oscars, a gt and a jd in 55gl tank i would get flamed big time. it just seemed like everyone here had a much more positive outlook on fishkeeping.

personally, i've been doing the chatroom thing since the early 90's and have racked up 12K+ on a couple other sites that i visit over the years, my most is 13588 posts on a site i've been a member of since sept/2002. i'm not about to back down from some 15 year old critiqueing my fishkeeping skills or commitment level.when some of the mods would engage in the flaming i never backed down and went for the jugular.

but when i came here and talked about my fish situation all i heard was "great looking fish", "what are your long term plans" and my personal favorite and what completely changed my involvement in the hobby, "ya know, if you're looking for a cheap big tank try the recycler or craigslist". when i started doing that more than a year ago the number and size of my tanks more than doubled...lol
