Im leaning more toward a JD, but want another fish in there like a con of FM. Looking for info so i don't overstock my tank

Sounds cool but what about another fish in the Genus:
Archocentrus or Rocio: rather than the common JD(Rocio Octofasciatum)
Cryptoheros or Amatitlania: rather than the common Convict(Amatitlania Nigrofasciatus)
Thoricthys or Asthaheros: rather than the common Firemouth(Thoricthys Meeki)

Acara will be good with a JD.
You could do a pair of JD.
Here is a list of species you could keep in the tank, with or without the JD (depends on species).

In my experience Acaras are way less aggressive than JDs. As Juvies they'd be good but once the JD is full grown at 10" and the Acara is only 6", the Acara's existence will be subject to the disposition of the JD. I you had a pair of JDs, forget it. On the other hand, A bonded pair of Acaras with a Single JD may work. Just my 2 cents.

the problom i see i keeping that tank looking nice with some ca/sa cichlids in it. they seem to rearange decor to their liking. but, if that's not a problom some pike cichlids might be something to consider also.
