It astounds me that many people on this thread always keep saying "Freshwater is better, because at least in freshwater tanks, I get to keep monsters." Have you completely forgotten about moray eels, stingrays, sharks, pufferfishes and triggerfishes? Or groupers, for that matter? Saltwater is superior- you can add live rock and live sand, and introduce literally thousands of potential species of colonizing algae and invertebrate species that would never appear in a freshwater environment. Also, what's the deal with saying saltwater is more difficult? You can't say that keeping discus fish is easier than keeping damsels or clowns. You just can't. Additionally, saying that freshwater fish have more "personality" than saltwater fish is completely subjective. Most predatory fish- fresh or salt- generally have more intelligence than the grazers or the bottom-dwellers. This is speaking very generally. Let's just agree that predatory freshwater AND predatory saltwater fish are just a little more personable than their bethic or grazing cousins, okay?
