what would YOU do with a 225g 3' wide tank?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
you are wrong. I have 5 Ctenopoma in my tank with very large bichirs. The Ctenopoma are incredible smart and shameless ha ha. The bichirs show no interest in them and the Ctenos rule the tank. I had rainbowfish the same size who got eaten at day one. also leopard ctenos get massive. An old ne can reach the size of your hand. You will find no fish with more personality. And they show their mood with their facial expression ha ha. I have 3 Ctenopoma kingsleyae and 2 ocellatum and i love those guys.

that's interesting. I will read up some more about them. I like how they look, kinda like a datnoid and a gourami had a freakish baby.

Thing is would they fit into the stocking that I proposed above? Darius do you have any pics of yours?

nice video Darius, how many do you have? I do love these little guys but I feel if I get them, I'll constantly worry about them being eaten or even worse I might not get any fish that can eat them and end up with no monsters in my tank!

I've seen vampire tetras for sale near me, I'm wondering how do they play with others? because with the bichirs and catfish I will be putting feeders into the tank regularly so that would be a good way to feed them, as I hear vampire tetras don't take nonlive food. whereas the bichirs and catfish will be getting lots of pellets too.

Still need to think of something for the mid-top section of the tank. I want a show fish. the firs thing people will notice in the tank because as much as I love polys and catfish people never really tend to notice them first!

Mikew165 If I see snakeheads for sale I wouldn't hesitate to pick up one of the medium species like pleuro or better yet auritamaculata (can't spell that one)

Get a bunch of Roseline Sharks!
Not monsters but they a beautiful looking fish, you could 12 of them in a tank that size.

How big do denisoni barbs get? cause I'm thinking they would end up lunch. also I seen them for sale in my area and jesus christ, they cost a fortune. for a schooling sharklike midwater fish I could just get balas and save the money for the bichirs

I think they get @ 6 inches. I used to see them here in AZ for around $25 to $ 30 bucks each. I knew you needed a school so I never wanted to drop $180 for them. Recently Petsmart started carrying them for $9.99 a piece and even better they had a half price sale on them for about $4.50. I got six a couple months ago and the best fish purchase I have ever made. love them.
I have them in a 150 and I have room to get more if I wanted.

Roselines or denision barbs have become alot more available in the hobby, just shop around you'll find some that are affordable. They get about 6" long and are quite impressive in a large school.

well thats alot of room so keep inmind whatever you decide to get, it has years to grow eg. arowana, red tailed catfish, your choices are almost endless... i would make an awesome salt water tank!!!!

You've just listed two of the fastest growing fish in the hobby. So "years to grow" is a bit of a stretch.
