What would you do with this tank?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I’m in the same boat. I have a 70gal tall. Just a little taller then yours, but same foot print.
I was thinking of a pair of rams or a harem. A school of rainbows and maybe something else. I want the tank planted And to have activity in all areas.

Or Apistogrammas have caught my eye too. It seems that most need softer water and lower ph though. My water is incrediblely hard and ph is 8.2.
But I think I saw one or two kinds that can handle it. I don’t remember for sure.

I’ll be following along to see others suggestions to get more ideas too:)

Hypsophrys nicaraguensis (group)
Chiapaheros grammodes (soloor pair)
Amatitlania sajica (group or solo male )
I personally would do a grow out group of Herichthys bartoni
also can go the African route maybe some tropheus

school of rainbows, a few gouramis, and a pair of loaches.

im gonna make some kind of rainbowfish community out of my tall hex tank once i get my sa community out of there. theyre fast becoming my schooling fish of choice. very pretty and entertaining.

if you want to go with a single mini monster type, perhaps a grammodes or nosferatu? lot of cool ca cichlids you could go with.

+1 red wolf, I love mine, hand feeds and has zero fear of my whole arm in the tank.
Begs for food like a puppy.

I like all of those ideas, but would have thought the Nic's or Bartoni would get too big for the tank. I have been trying to find nic's in my area for a while with no luck at all.

If you can buy from a group and pick the most active.

I really love SA's and would for sure do Apisto's, but my water is off the charts hard and I don't think long term they would do well.
