I said no and heres why..

After living without the fish for a year the wife will find some reason for him to NOT get it later... its a trick!!!!!

TRUST ME.. as a wife... theres ALWAYS a hidden agenda! ;)

^^I hate to assume the worst of people, but honestly thats exactly what I was thinking

Heck yeah. I know a couple people who could take my fish I really like and "board" them for a year. I would do it in a heart beat for that offer

Id jump at that a year is about enough time to plan the most awesome tank and fish gather all the aquascapeing stuff like perfect pieces of wood and things and gives you time to save up for it!!
Do it do it!!!!!!!!

Hidden agenda, hmmm. Maybe she wants to let him get a 1000g to REPLACE his current monster collection. Then he would only have one large tank. I couldn't do that. A large tank would be great, but I have too much variety, they couldn't all go together.

BUT, if the deal is legit, I'd do it, absolutely. I'd find a friend to keep the really important fish, and part with the ones that aren't critical or irreplaceable.

I think something is wrong with this. After the year is up she'll say something like, "Well, baby, you've made it this far..." And he'll never have more then a 10 gallon he keeps on his workbench in the garage.

Have him find out what is bothering her about the hobby and fix it.

Here's what my wife says, and I quote, "That's just her way of being nice, she really wants him out of the hobby. He should just suck it up and do what she says."
Man, I'm glad my wife likes fish.

If he has to give it up it will just free up more time and money to go drinking and play golf, start gambling, fishing every weekend, strip bars... She'll be begging for him to start tanks up again. (My wife read this over my shoulder and whispers "Yea right.")

I'm pretty attached to a lot of my fish so It would be difficult, if I wasn't though I would do it. A year flies by quickly and the payoff is certainly worth it.

Well at least I know I'm not the only one that gets attached to my fish, I don't think I could stand giving away any of my fish, in the 3+ years in the hobby I've only gotten rid of 2 fish the day after I got them due to aggresion issues. So I vote no because I couldn't part with my fish.
