Oh dude sorry you lost your whitethroat, that sucks! :( Was she a big 'un?

she was a 4footer I have had since I was in college. She was a rescue, her right hind leg was amputated by the vet I rescued it from due to some idiot have loose chicken wire in its cage. She dropped eggs all the time, but I couldnt bare to see her get mounted by a large male knowing she had a disability and wouldnt be able to defend herself when she wanted to. I dont know how old she was when I got her. She was with me for 5 yrs.

Sorry for your loss Varanio. I felt the same way when my male green iguana of 13 years suddenly died from kidney failure.

it will eventually become a a garbage animal, much like the route Wild-caught ball pythons and normal phase bearded dragons are going.

NO animal is trash to me! Sadly

that is not what you said earlier

I said TO ME. I keep and have kept normal phase balls and beardies, and love them.
The general public, herpkeeping public or otherwise, just does not think a cheap animal is worthy of keeping happy. Why? No clue.

It was implied by me that when a normally rare animal (like beardies once were, beleive it or not) becomes heavily captive bred, the normal phase's value decreases. A few years ago, a 15 dollar beardie would be unheard of. Now, 15 dollars is expensive. I would rather a magnificent animal like a blackheaded python to remain relatively rare and expensive, it's for the better. Just look at burms as an example. Albinos used to cost 10 grand apeice, now you can get them for 50.

You left out the rest of my quote. It said "Sadly, other people think differently. Not everyone in the world is an animal hobbyist."

im guessing they meant that the post before that one seemed to contradict your 2nd quote.the first time you said it would eventually become a garbage animal, however you didnt say to you it would,i dont know, just tryin to keep the peace here, and by the way, maybe you should move from your pineapple under the sea to the real world and find me a store that sells beardies for 15 bucks,JK,last i saw they were like 40 or so.hell i sold babies to the stores for 10 to 20 each back in the day.Varanio, verry sorry about your monitor.

Go to a crappy reptile expo. There are often these small expos (20 or so vendors) in small towns surround big cities where big shows occur. At these you will regularly see 15 dollar beardies. However, the exact opposite is true of big shows like Daytona, MARS, NARBC, etc. Several 'mom and pop' pet shops that don't specialize in herps will sell them around 15 as well.

I've seen albino retics, which are normally around 1000, sold for 300, emaciated, with mites, and limp. The reptile biz isn't as rosy as it looks sometimes, but it is improving everyday.

Ok, maybe calling a 15 dollar beardie expensive was an exaggeration. I should have said 30. *rolls eyes*

Dang that was intense. Blackhead pythons, ackies....woah.

If it were my 125, I'm not sure what I'd do. But I was thinking of something with a few Eastern fence lizards today, kind of a sandy base with some scraps of old, dry wood like from an old barn and some rusted metal stuff. And cool rocks.

that sounds cool,a lizard mad max zone,jk,that would be realy neat, those little dragon looking guys looked awsome, dont know anything about them though.i wonder how they interact.
