I prefer the blunt honest approach with stubborn keepers. They either get a slap in the face by reality or learn the hard way after whining and leaving. Keepers that are open minded can be talked to quite politely with no rush.
Dang my moms putting me on the spot to ask a girl to homecoming... *nervous*
Cool, If you do, I don't personally though, I have seen a few members on here it hasn't worked for, and I know how I would like to be talked to, even if I weren't all up on this stuff lol. Anyways back to topic!
Like you get a kid who INSISTS his husbandry is 100%, you tell him hes wrong nicely and he'll get pissed and leave. Then a month later he comes back and his animal has 'died for no reason and his husbandry was perfect'. Thats a slap in the face by reality.
Then there are open minded people who really care about their pets health and want to fix it. They ask questions and are open to recommendations and will do anything to get their husbandry better.
......... Wait, elaborate on that or homecoming? LOL
I really dont need elaboration on your homecoming...ha ha ha ha ha, I wanted to make sure you were speaking about novice keepers rather than experienced keepers who have years of downs and ups and success breeding and hatching reptile species, because they can be as stubborn as they want..... they have proven results.
Hahaha you sure you dont wanna hear the juicy details?
Yeah dude I was talking about new keepers. The stuff I tell them comes from people with sucess. I don't like to tell them everything because I'm bound to mess it up. I tell the basics (which is often all I know anyway), then give them a good book, website, forum, whatever. Just a nudge in the right direction is all.

Lol, I hear you on that one Alex! Back when I first started getting into breeding herps as a hobby there wasn't this new fangled "internet" to help answer your questions. And I only new a few local people (2) who were keeping similar animals as me and only one of them were trying to breed their animals. Local reptile shows were rare and my parents didn't have time to drive me to another state for a show. It was mostly trial and error the first few years and most libraries didn't carry books on the proper care for incubating turtle and lizard eggs. You definitely have your ups and downs! Just when you think you've figured it out, something throws you a curveball!
I wish people still used their common sense "flip switch" everyone wants everything handed to them on a silver platter. Reptiles or animals in general are different than any other hobby there is no owner's manual! ha ha ha ha ha let them tell you what youre doing right and wrong.
Exactly, nothing makes me happier then seeing my animals fat and healthy. It tells you that you're doing something right. Breeding, egg laying and egg hatching are just the icing on the cake!
By far, I think this is the best post I've seen in the Reptile Forum in my whole time here:

Why is this thread so insane? Educating people on the choices they make or reccomend is insane? I think it has been rather educational and it will teach people to take their finger off the trigger next time they want to impulse buy. What makes that post so great? That person obviously recieved some criticism for his recommendation, and believe me there are so many people that think that way. So rather than present a case for insanity for this thread and providing us with a nice anicdotal taste of your sarcasm why not jump on here and give us a .02 about why you think that some of the choices are poor ?
