I think you did the right thing. Just think about these possibliities...

1) She was sick/allergic/same as you. Police can tell, and will give her a break. Win Win situation
2) She wasn't paying attention, but is normally a good driver. Police let her off after a little scolding. No big loss
3) She wasn't being responsible. She loses the child which she was endangering. If she is irresponsible, she won't get the child back and better for the child. If it was a one time, stupid thing, she will have to work hard to get the kid back, and will have learned a good lesson.

maybe she was having allergy problems, that happened to you right?

there may be more to the story than you know.

did you report that accident you had to the police? just curious////////

That is why I hesitated as long as I did. She was also smoking in the car, not that big of a deal really and definitely not illegal, but it could give an insight to her parenting choices. This was not a toddler but I mean a new infant maybe 6 weeks old.

Ive been around long enough to know she wasn't sober, but the what ifs are still there. Maybe (hopefully) I was wrong and the cop lit her up, noticed she was fine and let her on her way.

Oh I also forgot to mention on the way to the store she didn't have her lights on and it was pretty dark.

Maybe from some of my posts in the lounge you all have noticed that I am more concerned with people's well being then of animals. I am honestly still shook up about this. Yeah, its not that big of a deal, but I really want the best for both mom and baby. Sadly I will probably never know. :(

Watch your local newspaper all arrests are normally posted in the community section. Might atleast ease your mind.

Look at this way, how would you feel if ya did nothing and after getting gas you drove down the road only to see the car smashed into a telephone pole...

You definetly done right.

That stands to reason...then again think of it like this...What are the chances of you being right where you were to see what you saw and do what you did?
You saved something good...your integrity should be commended...

i'd rather have sober, safe foster parents than that lady...

Better safe than sorry. If she was doing nothing wrong then she was probably sent on her way. If she was doing what you thought then you might have saved someone. Good call.

I would have dialed the police too. I've seen too many incidents like that.

I guess the odds are too weird for me not to have done anything. I followed her a couple miles to the store, passed her a couple times at the store, and even was behind her after leaving the gas station (she was still swerving pretty good).

Thanks for the kind words.

You did the right thing. Its not an easy thing to do BUT the general rule when reporting child neglect or endangerment is when in doubt report it.

As a teacher Ive done it several times...
