i agree with the rays with sand bottom plenty of room for the...maybe a mbu puffer for mid water and some gars for the top..been waitin for a tank that big so i can do rare species that need the room

I say it depends on if you go away for college or commute back and forth. Cause if you go away then its your dad that has to take care of them. and if that the case do not go with anything that requires alot of work. Unless he is willing to take care of them. Now since you like sa/ca cichlid. My vote is for geos or electric blue jacks. go with some larger ditcher fish for up top. and then some polys/ birchirs or smaller cats. the pictus will be great as long as you put some night lights you will see more action then. how about a fire eel?

this is just a crazy idea. Mbu puffers need about a 500 gallon tank by themselves. We have discussed the ray issue.get a jag , an rd and some oscars, they should all do well in that tank and would use all 3 levels plus they dont hide so ur tank will never look empty
