I'm a bit worried, if your friend is to lazy to decide on what fish to get, which is the most exciting part of keeping fish, how is he going to be excited about water changes every week? I voted oddball but was kinda thinking cactus plant? Pet rock?

oh dont worry he would get it from me if he didnt change the water. and he has a 55 gallon and a 20 that he takes care of. and we have to many cactus and rocks around here that we allready have to feed why would we want one more?!
5 african mudskippers, 5 archers, 5 monos, 3 dragon gobies for cleanup (they are filter feeders and primarily scour the bottom), 5 black lyretail mollies for algae (1m/4f) AND wet/dry sump filtration to keep the water extra clean to avoid disturbing the mudskippers as much as possible
