LOL. That's funny. Well my 4" Alligator Gar is with two 4" Payara, 4" Jardini Arowana, and a 1.5" Senegal Bichir. Anyone see any problems with this combination? So far everyone looks happy. I haven't tried feeding them, you think the gar will have a hard time catching food compared to the others?

if that bichir really is 1.5 inches, the payara or gator gar should have eaten it by now. They also grow faster than the senegalus, so yes I see problems with this combination.

If I were you I'd seperate the bichir.

he gets along with them fine. i felt comfortable with this because, i have another 4 inch senegal bichir with my 22 inch clown knife, and they get along fine. sometimes he even rests on the clowns head, its so funny :)

Sure, but in my experience clown knives are not uber predators.

Payaras and gator gars are uber predators, no doubt about it.

Also factor in that a senegalus gets 10/12 inches and a gator gets like 10 foot, obviously the senegalus is never going to catch up with the gar. The gar shall continue to outgrow it.

Do you have a photo for a size comparison?

ill take some pics when i get home. i also needa take a pic of my alligator and show people on this forum just to be 100% sure i didnt get jacked.

I agree, Alligator Gar are tough to keep in a tank, unless you have a couple hundred thousand gallons.

Yes that is an alligator gar that you have. The only true way to identify an alligator gar from all the others is that an alligator gar has two rows of teeth in the upper jaw, all other gars have one row. I have two right now at 14" and I got them about the same size as the one you have. Good rule of thumb- if it will fit in their mouth and they could swallow it, then they will. Mine are about one year old and I kept them from growing too fast by not feeding them everyday. They don't have the best eyesight and sometimes they will strike at another fish that flashes by them, but other than that they have been peacefull with my other fish. I have a 6" nile perch with them and they don't even bother him. I hand feed mine thawed frozen smelt and shrimp. They are really cool to watch eat. Congrats on your new one, good luck.
