whats a good monster fish

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I always liked the looks of them and it is not easy to find many of the great australian natives outside of their home country, many years back I did see some spangled perch for sale along with some barcoo grunters.

3 by what?

3 by 1? If so, that's a 25/30 gallon.

Your choice is pretty limited. Maybe a couple of dwarf channas, bleheri or gachua. Maybe an erythrinus erythrinus. Maybe a couple of hujetas and a chaca chaca.

Your tank is ideal for a Pair of Channa gachua:

Channa gachua (Dwarf Snakehead) are mouthbrooders and one of the easiest snakehead species to breed in aquariums. The male carries the egg and fry in his mouth to keep them safe.

Realy intresting I bred these a few years back purely by accident these are not my ones but what a Pr. of stunners

I would love to devote a big tank to a breeding pair of gachuas, and keep all the fry. Have a 6 x 2 swarming with channas :D

I've never bred any channas - how quick did the fry grow stotty? Did you sell them?

Well I would like to say I was a top fish breeder, but the truth was I bought 2 got them home put them in a tank with some other oddball fish with in 3 weeks I had a load of them. The growth rate from small to reasonable was quite quick and yes I took the lot down to Woodford Aquatics and as usual I think ended up swapping them for consumables at the time I was breading Angles and my dad was breeding Rams and Harlequins tetras so between us we were getting through tons of stuff. Quite handy though all the runt fish ended up as short term tank mates for my SH.:naughty:
