so im getting a huge tank soon, and got a red tail and a couple of other cats thatll be in there, im kind of thinking about getting a turtle but i dont want to get something that could potentially mess up the fine on my precious fish. does anyone have any recommendations? the less actual land it needs the better. Ive seen a fly river turtle with them before, what do ya think of one of those? and how much do they cost?

FRT's are pretty good with fish from what I understand but they are up to $900 with a good deal being around $700.
Mata mata turtles are also great but they need shallower water (not more than 24 inches for a full grown one and not more than 6 inches for babies) they are also a bit pricey but not nearly as bad as the FRT's. Babies can be bought for $250 and adults for around $400 for good quality ones.
Mud and musk turtles would be the next option. Most of them stay too small to eat a catfish and would not bother them unless there was a decisive lack of food. no guarantees with them but they are the most readily available and easiest to care for of these choices ranging between $20 and $50 depending on what type and where you are located.
I would suggest doing some research on these turtles and see what you like more and what would fit with you more.

I am telling you, Mata mata's are GREAT with fish. they physically CANNOT hurt them unless they are small enough to fit into its mouth. I have successfully kept mine with many different fish without incident for 3 going on 4 years now
