What's best for a 75 gallon?

Looks like I will have to do a bit more research into some of these fish. For example, up until about 2 minutes ago I didn't even know what a RTM was or even what RTM stood for.

I'll be looking into this a little more and maybe have a few more questions to post during lunch.
Oh and the OP didn't like JDs, I have no problem with them. If they'd be a good cichlid to start with I'd be fine with that.

I never said no JD's you could do them easly in a 75.

To the OP: Welcome to MFK!

A pair of Amphilophus Xiloaensis or Amphilophus sp "Red Isletas" would fit nicly into a 75 if you like the Amphs. Carpintas as mentioned is also a good looking fish. GT's are another option I love the gold saums and make a striking display IMO. If you like Parachromis a pair of Red Tiger Motas or Freddies would also fit. Again there are many options.

Let me give you my experiance with GTs. I have noticed GTs seem to develop intestinal disorders when feed diets lacking suffecent vegitable matter. It is fine to feed them the occasional earth worm or krill as long as the diet includes veggies like skinned peas Omega One veggie wafers ect. It is important with these fish to keep the digestive system moving. I've noticed krill shells for example cause white stringy poop but is not a parasite also earth worms cause long stringy poop but brown not white also not a parasite. bottom line is a good balanced diet with a pellet such as NLS Thera +A or Hakari Boi-Gold + as the staple combined with regular water changes your GTs will grow healthy and display amazing color. Good luck and let us know which way you go. Just reasearch before buying and ask questions.

The messy part is generally from over feeding. More food = more waste. Also if the food breaks into small pieces it tends to come out their gills, so use a more stable food that is sized for them. For example Cichlid sticks make a lot more mess than pellets.
 
Geez, even more options. The Freddy looks pretty slick, so many different fish i never even knew existed! I have to narrow this down a bit...
So far of the fish you have all mentioned the ones i like the most are:
-Green Terrors
-Carpintis
-Red Tiger Motas
-Freddy
-Red Isleta
-Convict (looks similar to the isleta tho, so it'd be one or the other not a con and isleta)
-and of course the EBJD but the store I found them in only had 2 of them at about 2" each so I don't know if at that size I could get one with any of these other fish.

Is there a combo of 3 that would include tank mates safe for a small EBJD? I don't have a separate tank to grow the EBJD apart from the other fish. well, outside of a 5 gallon tank my wife has her betta in. I doubt that would work, eh? Just looking for a safe mix with a variety of looks/colors. Basically, which of these (if any) flat out will not work with each other? Can you tell I keep gravitating back to the EBJD? LoL, that was immediately what my heart went to as soon as I came to terms with not getting an oscar. If its just not meant to be tho, just tell say so and I'll have to make do.

Also, a mixed diet is also something I was planning on doing anyways so hopefully that'd be a non-issue as well. Hikari pellets would be the staple with the veggie wafers, blood worms (i think thats what made my oscars go nuts back in the day) and whatever other 'treats' I could find for them.

Oh and don't be alarmed by how clueless I may sound about some of these different fish. While I probably am as clueless as I sound, I won't be once I settle on them. I will research the hell out of the ones I get and will treat them as good as possible. Which incidentally is why I keep asking so many questions, just trying to not screw things up.
 
My suggestion would be if you really like the EBJD get it and a similar sized GT and grow them out together in the 75. If raised together they should be fine IMO. Decorate the tank with some good hides and sight breaks and add some dither as distraction. It should work out.
 
Yeah I think you're right. I think I'm gonna try the EBJD and GT and see how things go. I have a feeling if I don't at least try to raise an EBJD it will keep nagging at me that I should have. I will be sure to follow VRWC's advice too and make sure that if there is trouble between them I can return one for store credit or a different fish. Hopefully it won't come to that.

Sorry I kept asking essentially the same question over and over again. I have a tendency to over analyze things.

There is no problem with you asking all the questions you have, that's what the forum is all about. We all learn from each others experiances. I would rather threads like this all day than one that says "I put my RD in my ten gallon tank and it ate my sisters Betta, HELP!"

heres my opinion..if you did a oscar you can have one and you might have to eventually move it to a bigger tank..but i wouldnt get a oscar they require dont need to but i mean REQUIRE a lot of filtration, partial water changes and there not the best looking cichlid..but imo id do firemouths, green terror, salvini, texas, blue acara, or even convicts..
