And how do you suggest we do that? Who determines who is mentally unstable? You can't just go around and lock up people who have emotional problems.

you are right. idk who would determine it but it is not about "gun control" that will not help, they need to control the crazy people who use these tools to kill other people.
Why not? If the government can determine who can and can't own a gun, then they should be able to determine who can and can't live in society among other people without posing a threat to others. Instead of going after the easy target (guns), we need to focus on the real issue (mental health). But nobody wants to talk about it because it's too difficult or a violation of one's civil rights to lock them up for being mentally unstable.
I find a couple of faults in your reasoning.
First, if you said "basically western society " I could go along. Saying it is "european" shows some lack of knowledge of europe's ( essentially southern europe's ) familiar matrix. I do not want to turn this into a debate between both sides of the pond, but one of the side clearly gets the majority of havoc created by said " morally brokeb down" people.I would say that 1 out of 10 cases take place in one side of the pond, compared to the other.
As to the sub-saharan kids; they are kids because of thei age, only. Thie way of life and the conditions they sadly live by take their childhood away.
And it was done right here in this city some years ago.There was a facility called Byberry which was basically a warehouse for those with mental health issues.The place was shut down due to mistreatment of the residents by the staff and a lot of them were left to wander the streets...
i agree with you ..this is certainly a big void in childrens life ..having a good foundation and security makes a genuine difference in how a person grows up ..whether they are emotionally secure, have morals because they are taught right from wrong.. love almost always brings more love....
Sorry if i was unclear i meant from an anthropological standpoint a western society which is relatively new, and did develop in western europe, where the nuclear family is important and neolocality is the norm as well is a form of Christian or judaic beliefs. And even though the living conditions in subsaharran Africa are deplorable, many of the pastorilist societies there have had a minimalist culture that is divided into clear age sets for a very long time that predates the modern famines and turmoil. I wouldn't say they have had there childhood stolen from them but its really a matter of how a society defines childhood
