Where it's going is that you're destined for a life in the dumps if you aren't raised by two married, well educated, church-going, God-fearing, khaki-wearing, minivan driving, suburb-living, Kumbaya-singing responsible well-behaved adults. That's where it's going. By that definition we would all be violent sociopaths.

Did you know that when a normal person loses their khakis it means they can't find their pants, but when someone from Boston loses their khakis it means they're unable to start their automobile?

what is your problem......i don't know why but i find you amusing.. that sounds like the perfect life.. haha.. my life was a far cry from this.. and i think yours was too.. but i do believe that this fairy tale way of life would be just fine for any child growing up.. so don't knock it too much.

Yes of course mine was far from that. And I turned out fine (at least I think so). And that's my point. Just because you're not raised a way in which society deems worthy (what I described above), doesn't automatically mean you'll be a bad child.

Who said any of that? Why do people have to take an argument to an extreme degree to try to make a point? Are we not able to have a healthy debate on any subject without getting our proverbial panties in a bundle. There are valid points on both sides but some of you are to ignorant or stubborn to accept them. That is the biggest problem we have today. Everyone is stuck on it being their way only. Try opening up your minds to the possibilities outside of your little boxes. Maybe take a breath and smile instead of cursing.

Ah the essence of a good argument :) You take an exaggeration and stretch it out even more. By the way, who's cursing?

This ^ is completely full of CRAP. Keep whatever mindset you choose. but right now it seems lit up by broad misconceptions, insults, belittling of others' minds, and just flat reverse self-righteousness which you aren't even recognizing in yourself.

That's not my mindset. I was paraphrasing somebody else's.

Everyone who touts the second amendment always seems to forget the 'well-regulated' part of 'a well-regulated militia'. And don't kid yourselves that you are a militia worth two hairs on a rat's aft compared to modern military forces, folks. Personally, I am pretty damned pissed that I can't have a fighter jet.

America currently executes its militia idea in one of the most awful, half-assed ways imaginable -- compare and contrast with Switzerland!! Training in the proper use of firearm, and more importantly, correct STORAGE and OVERSIGHT of the weapon, really should be mandatory. A system similar to auto licensing, insurance, and regular retresting come to mind... If you really and truly want home defense, protect your loved ones and use a shotgun instead of a pistol or revolver.

I'd argue that there's already enough regulation these days to address the aspect of 'well-regulated'. It's not really the Wild West that people seem to believe it be. As far as 'militia', it doesn't matter what you believe there. The Supreme Court has already established and maintained that this extends to individuals for protection of their own lives. Nobody is stupid enough to believe that an individual can challenge the forces of the government.

The thing about shotgun vs pistol or revolver...that's just ridiculous. Trying to restrict one gun type over another will solve nothing.

Agree absolutely.

Are you guys. Saying that values ( or whatever you want to call i t ) are better than they were fifty years ago??

We do not need to go to the dark ages to have this discussion. But 50, 30, years ago??

People have no values today. Families, most in western society, are gone. parents have no time to counterbalance with 10% of time the negative influences on kids that they reeive 90% of the time.

Of course poeple live better, nowadays. They have better access to a lot of things. Healt care, but also dvds and playstations. But values? principles? This is a doomed society we ate living in, only worried about a uick buck and quick sucess.

NO, what you did was: You interpreted someone else. It was all your own words. You proclaim it as being THEIRS.
you assumed that someone else was even heading there to, begin with.

In a word yes. Values are relative and change with times but I would say society (US at least) refusing to accept children working in factories is an improvement. I would say families accepting that their kids go to school with all races is an improvement over the 50s. Those are important values plus tons of other examples.

Just because bad behavior is publicized more by sensational news orgs trying to make money doesn't mean the world is falling apart. You may watch too much news.

I see families all the time, I would hardly say they're gone.
