I appreciate what you're saying, and I'm glad you had a good childhood experience. I'm not trying to start an argument here...

but that really is whitewashing history. I could point out plenty of things wrong with the fifties, beginning with racial discrimination and violence and all the way to the horrific murder of the Clutters, but I don't want to violate the TOS.

I just can't buy your argument that society has changed for the worse. Not sure where you were going, but I think tolerance and acceptance is a good thing.

I will do my part to be consistent for my kids, but I won't be talking about some ideal past (ok, except rock n roll). I think things are getting better. At least they won't be working in a factory when they're 11...

i respect your valid points.. i will and always will open my eyes and not get so indulged in my own tunnel vision era.. your right there were alot of wrongs that have been made better for the best in this regard........i learned something from you.. theres so much more to think about.. i appreciate your honest reply.

Not sure where you were going

Where it's going is that you're destined for a life in the dumps if you aren't raised by two married, well educated, church-going, God-fearing, khaki-wearing, minivan driving, suburb-living, Kumbaya-singing responsible well-behaved adults. That's where it's going. By that definition we would all be violent sociopaths.

what is your problem......i don't know why but i find you amusing.. that sounds like the perfect life.. haha.. my life was a far cry from this.. and i think yours was too.. but i do believe that this fairy tale way of life would be just fine for any child growing up.. so don't knock it too much.

Who said any of that? Why do people have to take an argument to an extreme degree to try to make a point? Are we not able to have a healthy debate on any subject without getting our proverbial panties in a bundle. There are valid points on both sides but some of you are to ignorant or stubborn to accept them. That is the biggest problem we have today. Everyone is stuck on it being their way only. Try opening up your minds to the possibilities outside of your little boxes. Maybe take a breath and smile instead of cursing.

This ^ is completely full of CRAP. Keep whatever mindset you choose. but right now it seems lit up by broad misconceptions, insults, belittling of others' minds, and just flat reverse self-righteousness which you aren't even recognizing in yourself.

Everyone who touts the second amendment always seems to forget the 'well-regulated' part of 'a well-regulated militia'. And don't kid yourselves that you are a militia worth two hairs on a rat's aft compared to modern military forces, folks. Personally, I am pretty damned pissed that I can't have a fighter jet.

America currently executes its militia idea in one of the most awful, half-assed ways imaginable -- compare and contrast with Switzerland!! Training in the proper use of firearm, and more importantly, correct STORAGE and OVERSIGHT of the weapon, really should be mandatory. A system similar to auto licensing, insurance, and regular retresting come to mind... If you really and truly want home defense, protect your loved ones and use a shotgun instead of a pistol or revolver.

I absolutely agree! I want an Abrams! And we should have some sort of training in place. Some form of awareness training would at least reduce injury due to negligence.
