What's in the Bag x 5?!?!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Well nobody has guessed the 5th fish so I'll just post it. Giraffe nosed catfish, specifically Auchenoglanis sp "Bouche." In my opinion the best looking of the Giraffes. Arrived as the most washed out fish I've ever seen, so much so that I thought they were wrong about the Bouche label because the identifying spots were almost totally gone. But he's colored up and is looking great, just needs to be fattened up a little bit1.JPG

Awesome pick up. You ever here of the fish store absolutely fish out in nj ? They have a cat pretty sure it was the same it like 19 yrs old. Customer was going in for a routine surgeryand had them hold the fish for him while he recovered guy ends up dieing and they store felt bad to sell it so it became their mascot

damn that's sad but kinda awesome. Never been there. Where in NJ?

I never heard of girrafe nose catfish.
Yeah they're not too common. Not exactly rare, but you don't see them as frequently as say a TSN or RTC. There's a ton of debate of the taxonomy of the genus, very frequently mislabeled because even the pros don't know what the hell is going on haha. Very awesome fish though

I've seen these many times at Wet spot. They are considered the dwarf version and should be under 1.5-2 feet in the aquaria. Keep us posted on this cool specimen.

Actually haven't gotten it going yet. It's all set but I've had that construction to care of, and once that was done I got delayed setting up the gulper tank and a 125 that I'll have going tomorrow. Once the 125 is settled I'll be getting that 300 going.

Yeah you read a lot of contradicting stuff about them, but it seems they'll get to about 2' if given the space, which my guy will have. But really even the more experienced catfish guys like thebiggerthebetter are unclear on them so we'll see

Very nice! I tried a giraffe cat some years back. It was a Volta which is thought to be a smaller variety that stayed in a 17" size range. I sold mine when it hit 8" because it single handily managed to destroy a tank decor in minutes. It would burrow in the sand and move all the plastic plants to one side of the tank and then hide in them.
