What's in the box? It's polys!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Oh the water doesn't look that bad... I wouldn't worry about that myself.

Low light refers to the fact that the plants don't need super powerful lights to thrive, and they can live without CO2 dosing. They are generally low maintenance. It doesn't mean they live in a cave. ;) They still need consistent light. Timers are a planted tank enthusiast's best friend.

Hi Mud! You're a handsome dude!

I would... do what J jaws7777 says (reiterated by Polyaddict, who did what jaws said) LOL

- Water change (use dechlorinator, avoid hose if you can just in case)
- Wait 24 hours.
- Put a whole bottle of Safestart in.
- Acclimate fish before putting them in, like with new fish.
- Skip a day of feeding, then feed lightly every other day.
- Monitor parameters daily.
Good break down:)

If you have the fish in the tank already, what you do before adding tetra safe start,

Feed fish a day before WC
Next day do WC add dechlorinate
Wait 24 hrs
Add safe start
Wait the next day check ammonia, nitrite and nitrate

By feeding the fish before WC, the fish will produce waste/ammonia, so even you do WC and add prime, the fish will still produce ammonia for the safe start. Then just follow the routine water check and light feeding every other day.

Send us some pics of the crew in the 55g.

Note: make sure the intake is pressed in securely to the hob filter. Wouldn't want a poly to get sucked in. I lost a 20" rubber eel this way. Also, Seal all openings :)
Oh! I had one of those too. Same thing knocked the strainer portion off of a big whisper filter. He didn't die or even get hurt just hung out in the filter for a couple weeks til I found him, scared the crap out of me.

Thanks will do what you said what Polyaddict86 Polyaddict86 said what J jaws7777 said. Fish will be in the 55g by Friday hopefully.
Thnks for the detailed instructions and the concise step by step. Remember the anubias nanas I tried to grow....lol no street smarts when it came to those. I'm all book smarts. Why won't my plants grow in my cave?! Lol. Did 6 hours today. Will tinker around with that timer

Mud says hi and is very pleased you enjoyed his photo. He's currently sleeping on his leaf hammock.

To put the polys in the tank, I'm doing drip acclimation? I put all the stuff in my amazon cart, will have to check if I ordered it or not.

Good advice right there. When in doubt wc wont hurt so dont stress that.

But whats in the 55 bioload wise ? What fish ? You have an ac110 i woukd think it woukd be fine and woukd easily handle that load. I have one in the 75 gal wi 5 hets and the sen and mostly do 2x a day feedings and it handles it fine.

You can also move whatever decor you had in the qt over to the big tank as all of it will be covered in bb.

When u get some spare $$$ pick up a sponge filter they are an extremely effective source of biofiltration and are cheap.
What do you mean in terms of bioload? I guess I don't know what that means. I just have the 4 danios and 4 giant danios in there with the ac110. They are producing 10ppm nitrate per week.

For sponge filter: do I also need a pump for it? I did the filters before just with an airdrome and I felt like I wasn't getting the full benefits. Plus it was quite loud? ,

Polyaddict86 Polyaddict86 thanksnfor posting the safestart instructions. The step by step helps me A LOT.

AMMONIA is now 0 on the 55g. Hallelujah sweet cheezits! Did the water changes in the 55g and QT. Water looks cleared in the plant tank. Vancouver_98683 Vancouver_98683 lowered temp to 83-85. And did not add replacement salt. Hoping this clears up the mokes eye.

When you say intake, that is the tube that goes over the impeller? Or the bottom of it that sucks water in? Yes nobody goes in the tube :( . What are your thoughts on tying a DLS pad or sponge to it?

Remember dont feed them for a couple of days....well that might be hard...bye bye danios lol

The bacteria colony is as large as it needs to be to handle the bioload that the danios are producing. Now we are adding 3 polys to the tank so it will take time for the bb to catch up to the new load. Food = waste = larger bioload.

May have an ammonia spike just watch the water and do wc's as needed. Or dose the safestart after u add the polys...and still watch the water
