What's in the box?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
was doing water changes for nearly 4 hours last night (also moving some larger fishes around) so i'm just getting back to this thread.

to reply to some of the comments, etc:

- first off, congrats on the new CBGs! figured i was pretty close on my guess given the number and previous info. are they relatively thick? the second batch i got had some very skinny individuals (due to low feeding while Oliver was out of the country).

- i've been in touch with Oliver several times a week for the past several months, he's been extremely helpful in our work. i am hoping to help him out in getting some tropicals, but that will take further effort and likely much more time. i am planning on visiting the farm sometime this summer for other research work.

- we do have plans for further CBG work, so more fish are on the radar :) as for selling any off further down the line - this will likely be the case, but the timeline is uncertain as it depends on upcoming work. furthermore, i wouldn't be able to ship to Canada without major paperwork and other restrictions, so they would likely stay in the US (unless we figured out some sort of pick-up plan).

looking forward to updates on the gars!--

The Cuban I got went to Thailand first and then here (due to the lame Cuba embargo)...did not come from Lucanus.

Thanks Sol. These guys are very thin right now. As I understand it the shipment these guys came from only arrived on the 26th. I'm guessing they weren't fed that much in preparation of shipping.

Hoping you do help him out in getting tropicals. Then I'll be able to cross another species of my to get list.

Pickup in the states is no problem. Just as far of a drive for me to buffalo as it is to toronto.

I will definitely keep post some updates.

Here are some pics. Most are of the smaller gar. The bigger one keeps hiding out where it can't be photographed. Same 20L growout from the previous batch, though more plants in the setup this time. I'm also switching things up a bit and having tankmates in with them from these smaller sizes. The tankmates are 3 irwini catfish, 1 pterodoras granulosus, and 2 zamora woodcats. I'm hoping the woodcats will teach the gars how to eat the pellets. I've already had some luck with the biger gar eating some tilapia chunks that were for the catfish.
