That is what they wound up being.I had them in one of those square framed net cages for fry temporarily but while I was out one of the fish in the tank must have knocked it loose, releasing all the little ones into the tank.

I have 4 of them from 3 different manufacturers and I can't say I own a single one that doesn't SUCK. I think cichlids were the last things on the manufacturers' minds when they made them - these things were meant for Molly/Guppy/Platys and other live-bearers to be placed in while pregnant in a docile community. I can't even count the fish that have escaped "isolation" in these things (seemingly intelligent, right?) only to put themselves right back into a dangerous situation.....but sometimes they work.
Don't hate the player, hate the game lol Cichlids and other similar fish are SOOOOOO much smarter than people can imagine. There's no such thing as solitary confinement.

Nope.....not hatin at all,I just felt bad for those tiny little fish that never knew what hit them once they were free of the cage. That is certainly not how I wanted them to wind up.In fact,I have used those contraptions plenty of times and have never had an issue.I've even cut one end open on two separate cages and tied them together to make a bigger cage and safely kept fish in there until they were big enough to be free in the tank.
I'm guessing it was probably one of my dats who knocked the cage down after not being able to resist not going after all those constantly moving tiny targets.
I remember when my green sunfish injured himself,he wouldn't eat so I put a divider in my guppy tank, long story short my guppies swam around the divider and my green sunfish decides he wants to eat,I lost about 20 or 30 guppies, the sad thing is it was only 8 seconds or so between me putting the sunny in and me taking him back out.
