what's in the QT?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Okay! I will go worm hunting tomorrow. There's only humungo(that's the technical term) earth worms in my yard. Kinda afraid to chop them up because of how they flail. It's a phobia. :p Hahaha Wish there were red wigglers in my yard.i can tolerate those. But that poly needs a worm!

You should be able to find some smaller ones in there if you look closely. I rinse them a bunch and then snip snip while in water with scissors and I don't see as much of the flailing. ;)

I would find it hard to believe that a poly would turn it's nose up at Silversides or Tilapia.

It did just rain today! So I might find some sweet ones.

Maybe it only eats WC tilipia instead of CB. :p

So I opted to try blood worms. He didn't eat them even when they were right in front of his face. Also he doesn't move a lot(never has). When I poke him with the net(to see if he's alive) he doesn't even move. Like even when I try to scoop him up with the net, it is difficult because he stays stiff. His gills move though. Has any body ever had an experience like this?

How's ur water parameters and temperature?

Temp was set to 78* on heater, but water felt kinda hot like a hottub to me(not sure if calibrated correctly). Thermometer said 75 (tank felt like 80 to me.)

parameters: Haha yes I can finally check that now!!
pH: 7.6
Ammonia: 0
Nitrites: 0
Nitrates:0

only other thing I can think of is that maybe tank didn't cycle long enough.

Yea it's not cycled yet. But keep the water changes going and keep checking the numbers. It'll take weeks to start to get a good colony of BB.

Recheck the temp. But a temp of 80 is ok. Should be more active.

Probably cont the prazi pro. Wait it out and see if it eats later.

Some thermometers need to be calibrated - I'd definitely check the temperature and get a cheapie thermometer to keep in the tank anyway.

You should have nitrates in a cycled tank.

My rope fish wouldn't really eat bloodworms initially but they chowed on the silversides. You might try cut up silversides since they're whole fish and stinkier if you can't do the earthworms. Some fish will go on a little food strike with new stress but it shouldn't go on for all that long esp. in a CB fish IME. Not moving even when touched is a bit strange... tomorrow will be a week that it's not eaten?

When your done with the meds run some carbon for a few days do some big water changes then dose the tetra safestart. You'll be seeded in less than a week
