I'm with Stephen. Now that I can get a good look at it, I'm 85% sure that it's female. The lack of red on the throat and from what I could tell are rounded fins suggest female.

Along with that the breeding tube is triangular. I'm not an expert with flowerhorn, but from what I've seen all female fish, or at least female cichlids, have a triangular breeding tube.
it has been doing this all night at the sponge filter.. Like I said it's acting like its laying eggs but I don't see anything
Maybe it's trying to. Without enough food it won't produce eggs. That or the fish is still learning.

Like the fish you posted in TWO damn threads told you its most likely female and you reply can anyone else help me? It has a black dorsal spot and looks female so told you my opinion.
