thanks man really helpful

No problem. Also, my pleco is between the 11-12" marks, and he lives with a senegal bichir that went into the tank at 2" and is now ~7". I have seen Phillip (the pleco) suck on the bichir, but only for a second and the bichir gets out of there. Phillip only does it when the bichir is really close to his tomato.

I have never heard of a pleco sucking the slime coat off a poly. Could anyone elaborate on that for me? I have kept my sailfin pleco with Senegal and ornate bichir and have never seen this behavior. Curiosity piqued.

okay noted I have gone for the peppermint pleco and what happens if they do suck all of the Senegal slime coat off?

I have only caught the act a couple of times. I don't think he's sucking the slime coat though. I have a rock in the tank that I rubber band the plecos food to. occasionally when the bichir is being especially lazy and laying next to it, Phillip will get close to the tomato and start "searching" for it. His mouth ends up on the bichir, and the bichir leaves the area. I think the case is that the pleco cant see what is under him and ends up sucking the bichir briefly. But that is just my guess. He's a very strange fish, so who knows what he's thinking.
