Whats the biggest pleco i can get for a 55 gallon?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
As long as plecos are well fed...they will not suck on other fish. In my 25 years of keeping fish and always having plecos, never has a single one ever sucked on another fish.

This comes from people not feeding their plecos with the thinking they will get the scraps and leftovers.

Agreed. I've only kept plecos for about ten years, but have never had them rasp or suck on another fish. That includes other bottom dwellers and slow moving mid swimmers.

Never seen a pleco of any species big or small suck another fish....but I have heard of it.
I think plecos and other sucker mouth fish just need a substrate and decor that is to their liking....keep them properly fed and these fish are seldom ever a problem in any tank.
