the tank bottom's fairly broken up, so i think ill try it out... the clown rarely comes out of his cave and the BN is fully herbivorous... worst case scenario, i bring the bichir back.

plus, i spend a couple hours a day watching my fish (the tank's a big distraction when i do my homework in my room lol) so i should be able to spot any problems quickly.
i've had 3 bristle noses and all 3 ate meat n my tank more and more as they grew

I have always had 2 plecos in with my polypterus. One is a royal which is a herbivore and the other right now is a goldy and I used to have a gold nugget both are mainly carnivorus. Never had a problem and never will:D.

yer lucky that the goldy is behaving lol. goldies are strict carnivores.

well fed plecos are well behaved plecos IME

I doubt the clown would bother a bichir provided the bichir was much larger, especially if you've got a timid individual.

Most of the horror stories I've heard and seen involved starved fish that started going after tankmates slimecoats because proper food wasn't offered, if easier food is available they're not likely to go after something that runs away from them.

If people keep Plecos with goldfish/koi which also have slime coats then I'd think that bichirs would do ok.. I'll find out myself when my spotted sailfin gets too big and has to go with my ornate and senegal

I've heard several people say its worked for them, and there are several more in this thread. My stance though is: why risk it? It'd be like putting a gulper cat in with another fish about his size, he might not eat it but he definitely could, so why risk the life of your fish?

It will depend on which species of plecos you gonna add. I have success with cactus plecos type, vampire plecos type, bristlenose plecos type, chubby pleccos and panaque type. But with a common pleco and sailfin pleco or any of those type of plecos, then you'll running into risking your bichirs or other ganoid scaled fish.

i agree go 4 it

the 3 plecs that i have are common BN, clown, and whiptail, so i think it will work... worst case scenario, i bring the bichir back to the lfs if i see the plecs rasping on it at all.
