The only issue with a large water change would be a swing in the ph. If you're keeping up on them though, a large water change shouldn't have a negative effect.
In fact, about a year ago there was a two part article in TFH, where the author did large 100% weekly water changes and his fish thrived and grew faster than his other tanks.
