Maybe you should do some RESEARCH and find out which reptile you can house properly at their adult size????

I agree those are all very different lizards, varying in size.....housing an adult leopard gecko is going to be MUCH easier then a savannah monitor......

I guess it all depends what kind of pet your looking for, a friendly one that you can periodically handle or more of a show piece to look at.....I have a leopard gecko that is an ok pet but i like my new ball python much more......

Hmmm...

Chinese water dragon: about average on the "cool" factor, decent-sized lizard, lots of personality

Tokay gecko: mean as heck, but has nice colors and makes a decent display pet

Leopard gecko: boring, mundane, simplistic, commonplace....basically, everyone and their brother has one...think outside the box

Savannah monitor: big, needs a lot of space, can be cranky, but if fed right and handled enough, can be pretty awesome

I vote for the Chinese water dragon. Both species of gecko are old news IMO, and the monitor is a pretty big undertaking (emphasis on BIG). Not my first suggestion for a newbie herper.

Are snakes out of the question?

I have or have had all of those except for the savanah, and I would go with a tegu before the savanah. I would have to agree to go with the water dragon.

If you can get your hands one I would suggest you look into blue tongue skinks. Out of all the lizards I have owned my BTS is by far my favorite. They are basically the lizard eqivalent to a dog.

Mine loves to be held, you can scrach his chin and he will fall asleep on your lap, and he hardly ever goes the bathroom when he is roaming around.

Also yesterday, I fell asleep with him on my lap, you would expect him to take off and not to find him but no, he stayed there and took a nap with me. I could never do that with any of my other lizards. I could never do that with any of my other lizards.

Just and idea of something to look into.

do the monitor and build him a wood enclosure in your basement...

I'd suggest some kind of snake. I've had a few lizards, and my snakes have all been much better pets than the lizards.

But in all honesty, from all the threads you've been posting in here recently, it seems like you've just gotten into reptiles and without much thought have decided to get lots of them just because they're there to get. I don't have anything against someone's wanting a large reptile collection, but it's something that deserves a lot more thought and planning than you seem to have given it.

The best advice I can give you is not to get anything right now. Hold off, read lots of material about different kinds of reptiles and find species that interest you, then research those, *then* look into getting one.

i really like all these lizards, and i really dont know how to take care of snakes. But i think i could take care of a snake if i did the research.

baby savanah monitors are on sale for 50 bucks, and ive pretty much always wanted one

tokays are my favorate gecko, and i really would like a tame one

I would really like a chinese waterdragon, but after thinking about it they would probaly need the bigest cage because they get 3 feet long and need a aditional water dish,

so does this tone it down........o yea i like snakes but i have to do more research.

WAIT!!! Dont you already own a CHINESE WATER DRAGON??????????http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=57074

Your enthusiasm is great but you need to make up your mind on ONE animal, keep it healthy and happy for more than 6 months and THEN decide whether or not you should try any more. NONE of these animals are disposable so dont treat them that way.;)

I say L gecko...........great BEGINNERS herp.:)

Snakes are generally much easier (with some exceptions) to care for than lizards. Main difference, they eat less often but most have to eat rodents.

I wouldn't count on a tokay if you're looking for something to handle. Tame tokays aren't impossible but they are very few and far between.

The bare minimum that I would recommend for a water dragon is a 75 gal tank, but ideally they need more. A savannah monitor would definitely require more space, though; probably something custom-built.
