Personally i think you shouldn't get anything and just do more research before you start buying, with all your posts on here it seems like you don't know what you really want, you just want a reptile right now......Why did you sell your water dragon if thats one of the things your looking at buying? just doesn't add up to me........
It was a valid question; you didn't have to respond rudely.
And it seems like it's in the best interest of the reptiles and you for you not to get anything for a while. If you're going to be fickle enough to buy a lizard, then get rid of it a couple of weeks later because you wanted a slightly older one (you know, the one you had would have aged anyway), you should wait and figure out exactly what you want before you get any more reptiles.
Well if you take care of a juvie it will grow to be a sub adult, and then an adult...
You can keep both the gex in a small tank like a 10 or 20g, but I'd forget about finding a tame tokay...I've heard of more tame nile monitors than tame tokays. For the sav or WD you're looking at building a cage (well I suppose you could buy a tank big enough for the WD - say 6x3x3?).
If you really want a monitor have you thought about the ackie (Varanus acanthurus)? They're a bit more expensive than the sav, but when you factor in the cost of food and the enclosure it more than evens out, plus they're captive-bred & healthier. You could keep one in something 6x2x2. There's always a bunch of them listed on the kingsnake.com classifieds.
If you really want something big & tame your best bet is probably the Argentine tegu, red or black&white. NOT the cheaper gold tegu from Colombia...Colombians can be mean.
Then why didn't you buy a subadult from the beginning? It doesn't add up to me, you want all these lizards but they either die or you get rid of them in a couple of weeks......it doesn't make sense at all, why don't you just take a break for a little while, find out what you want and what is the best for you, what you can house in the long run(savannah monitors get BIG), and then buy another one instead of just impulse buying a ton of lizards at their cost......
Sorry, I couldn't vote on the poll because my answer is NONE. You shouldn't get any other reptile while you are so undecided on which to get.
Also, your tokay died for a reason. Have you figured out why yet? Trust me, figure that one out and maybe you will find your mistake and do it right the next time.
im a big monitor fan. but if u wanna get a monitor get a argus or a water monitor they get big. there also very smart and dog tame. i have a 4 foot argus monitor and a water monitor that is 1 foot. very fun and like a dog

Blackthroats & whitethroats are cool too. Actually all my monitors have been very cool, I like Dumerils also but most are wild caught and have a parasite load when they get here. I did have a water that was very jumpy but he was in such bad shape when I got him that I just counted it lucky he was in good health.
I think the monitor might need more space than the water dragon. Either way, how can anyone answer if they dont know what experience you have with reptiles and lizards, or of similar species. I'd say research leopard geckos an awful lot and try them.
