Whats the one fish you really hate to see in the hobby?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
but I still think they need thousands of MILES.

That would be ideal but they don't need it.

I hate to see oscars & pacu due to so many being squashed, stunted and in general being mistreated, As for saltwater the larger sharks. I would love to see permits required to purchase and house them to ensure they will have proper care and space.

According to Wikipedia (shady, I know, but still), "Blacktip reef sharks have extremely small home ranges and exhibit strong site fidelity, remaining within same local area for up to several years at a time."

No person will ever be able to truly give a fish the same amount of swimming space that the wild offers, but we can do our best (and honestly, having a 20'x20' enclosure and living a pampered life sounds like a nice trade-off as opposed to living in the wild).

There's no fish I don't like seeing in the hobby, although I do feel a twinge whenever I go to a pet store and see their tanks with about 20 nickel-sized red bellied pacus schooling together and waiting for the next schmuck to come along and fall in love with them and end up with a monster in a few short months.

I have the same wish.

makes sense to me. They are called REEF sharks. They would stay close to the reef no? I know next to nothing about reef sharks, or saltwater fish in general actually.

The usual RTC (how can you mistreat a fish that looks so happy all the time?) and Pacu. Also gigas, it seems rare, even here that they get a big enough pond to live in.

I honestly believe they sell pacu because people see them at the size they are sold at and think Piranha. The weird part is, I have heard them tell people how giant they get and basically turn people away, and I know there are not enough people in my area with big tanks and the desire to own these fish to support the new stock they get weekly/bi-weekly. I am at petsmart usually at least twice a week, and I seldom see someone give Pacu a second look, the tank has never been near empty from selling a lot like other fish, but they always have a new stock?

This is the stuff that really bothers me and I'm not too crazy about the so- called platinum fish either. It's like people are bored with fish in their natural form so they create these monstrosities.
