A freshwater discovery channel mermaid with a spear would be unstoppable...If not, a gatf's teeth would be no match when a monster goonch had him pinned with those jaws..I don't think a goliath tiger would look at a monster goonch as food..goonch, goonch, goonch!..what's gonna mess with this bottom dwelling ambush predator?

This whole thread would have been much less ambiguous and caused less problems if the original poster would have stated more clearly the criteria for the species being considered. Such as only species that can spend their entire lives and reproduce in fresh water (true freshwater species/can live there entire lives in a freshwater monster aquarium) and excluding anadromous species. That would have cut back much of the spam on this thread.

My prior post I stated (in a rush from closing my families store for the evening) that a Goliath African Tiger Fish would defeat a Bull Shark in diurnal battle. That was mostly based on a same scale basis. Such as a 6 foot Goliath versus a 6 foot Bull Shark. Pound for Pound is another thread!

this is Max sizes guys, and i leave that part open to discussion, part of the debatę whever we should include em.however six foot bull sharks is the time they usually leave freshwater

I wouldn't say anything is ultimate. But more of what conditions they specialise in.
For Gatf's, they thrive in Rapids and have the speed, which is perfect for that kind of conditions.
For catfish, mostly they are ambush predators and have feelers to "smell" prey in dark and murky waters. Huge mouth to engulf the prey before they get away.
For Snakehead, they are easily adaptable, have the attitude and really thrive when given the chance.
What im saying is that everything is the ultimate predator as they specialise in specific conditions that they adapted to.
