How old is your ammnoia test kit?
Is the reagent bottle nearly empty?
Is your test a single double or tripple reagent?
Did the correct ammount of time elapse before reading?
Sorry for the 20 questions Ryan but ammonia reagents will oxidise rendering them a useful as tits on a bull. MIght pay to get a freshy and double check. Do you have a fish buudy nearby....or does your lfs test water.

If it is a bacterial infection in a lot of cases you can smell the infection
( water smells like it has a mild case of rotting dead fish ). If this is the case maybe a mild salt solution of 1 tea spoon per 10 litres will help in the meantime until you can accuratley diagnose and treat. Maybe get some feedback from other members on this idea as it is only my opinion.

Off topic..Sorry probably did'nt explain well. Not really smelling the infection as such. Black Disease, chilodonella, the plague? Very smelly when the skin starts rotting so really smelling the after effect.
Thanks MrFisher
No hi-jack.
Good luck.

well my test kit WAS wrong,
the culprit was OFF THE CHARTS amonia levels..
No clue what caused it.. but i lost every catfish except the asian red tail

today i purchased a few things incase of emergencies,

Prime by Seachem
Ammonia Detox By Tetra Aqua,
And Waste Control, Organic Waste Eliminator - By Nutrafin,

man that sucks. glad you found the culprit before you lost anymore fish. i would do waterchanges 1 or 2x a week and 25%. it might help because you removing more bad water and adding more good.

G'day Ryan, if i was in your shoes i would be doing a 30% water change to remove one third of the ammonia. From there on in i would be doing a 10% change daily for 5 - 7 days. I would also be adding bacteria in some form(nitrivec/cycle). Those products you have i am not familiar with besides the waste control and that is good for breaking down larger bits of biological/organic waste.
I would cut my feeding back by half if not a third uintil the situation resolves itself.
Yeh "go prime" this stuff will definatley help, great product.
Good luck man.

Ammonia in the amount of any level above .25 ppm is bad(as you have experiened. To save the rest of your fish you should be doing daily 50% water changes and double dosing with prime. If you can do two water changes a day. A 50% w/c will reduce your ammonia by half. You say it is of the charts? Lets say it is at 5ppm, after w/c 2.5ppm, a w/c 1.25 ppm, a w/c .675 ppm. a w/c .34 ppm, a w/c now .17 ppm. So 5 50% water changes could get you to acceptable levels, but that is also not considering that more ammonia is being produced. Also I would try to scale back to just a single tank on your system and get that one stable then expand to multiple tanks.
