Whats wrong with my tank?????

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My killer sponge was yellow with abbrasive green on one side. If the package said antibacterial on it ANYWHERE I'de color that the culprit. If you have used the exact same sponges in the past with NO ill-effects then that prolly wasn't the culprit.

The one I used, I think was found in the car section... it has the shape of a doggie bone and is yellow on both sides.
I dont think it was the sponge, but you never know.
I think it might have had something to do with the glue from the plumbing. The only thing about that is when I did the H2o change, the water was still blue even though I didnt turn the pump on. Thats the only reason why, also that if it was the glue, I think they would of croaked immidiantly and the barb wouldnt of waited to check out till after the H2o change?? WTF, I dont get it:cry:

Ganna try from scratch again:cry::cry::cry::cry::D

If you're gonna start all over, might as well wash your tank with a diluted bleach solution. I do this with all my old tank setups. Just add 1 part water and 1 part bleach, wash tank with solution, rinse and let the tank completely dry. Don't know what else it may be. Established filter media always works for me for quick setups.

wash your tank and get over here and buy some ceramic rings and some live bacteria.:D

scrap those sponges... they are not designed for bioload.. some of them have chemical compounds that could have caused you the problem.

and before you putting anything in.... get some more fish that are free from disease and test it. your hydrolycus can still sit in a 20gal for 2 to 3 months.:D

Hmmmmm, I would agree with DB. I find it hard to believe the ammonia killed your fish though. I would take as much water as you can from the other tank of course. If you did not wash your Bioballs and moved even 20 gallons form your other tank Iw ould say there is no way that ammonia killed the fish that quick. FOr the blue water I have no idea. If it was me I would probably start from scratch. I was thinking of doijg a fishless cycle also, but ya know.. when your dealing with rare fish such as an Armatus or AFT I would put a few gold fish in to make sure they live. I am just paranoid about that.

when i first filled up my 135G after moving it, the water was tinted really blue especially in a bare tank. even with established filters. after 1-2 weeks it turned turquoise, then green, then yellow, then cloudy, then clear.

im guessing it may be excessive chlorine or some other chemical from tap water
which is probably taking a while to break down in such a large tank
