Not sure if this is in the right section, but I'm just gonna vent.

Today at work, this guy comes in and of course he wants fish. Doesn't tell me what size tank he has at first but asks for a common pleco and a couple catfish, forgot which kind to be honest. Then he asks for a couple irridescent sharks. So I'm like, "dude, they get to be pretty big, do you think you can handle them?". He says, "yeah, i have a 55 and at one point i had 30 fish in there. NOne of them get over 3 inches though. I just don't feed them so that way, they can't get any bigger. Besides, they stop growing sooner enough, and I get rid of them before they get to big."

To make a long story short, i said, I cant sell you these fish with a good conciense (sp, yeah) and he says, "are you serious?"

I say yes, he starts to leave and asks for my name. So i clearly stick out my nameplate and say BRYAN. :swear:

Ha, he just walked away. I guess he didnt make a complaint. I'm just pissed i sold him the pleco to begin with. If i ever see him again, I'm just gonna say I won't sell him anything besides a bigger tank.

You can refuse to sell any fish you want man. If they refuse to provide the animal with adequate living conditions, then I have the authority to refuse to sell anyfish I want to anybody I want and thats the bottom line. They can go talk to a manager but that won't help because the manager will always side with me.

And we get people coming in ALL the time asking about reptiles. THey almost ALWAYS ask whats the least amount of money they can spend and whats the smallest tank they can put them in. Same goes for fish. People don't care at all about the fish and most of them don't bother looking up any info or taking my advice.

what a butthole. Yah thats like lets but a big koi and throw it in a goldfish bowl. duh.

I'm glad to see that there are some people out there who take pride in their profession still. When my wife and I started our first tank we bought a 29 gallon tank and set it up. When we went to our local pet store (which is now OUT OF BUSINESS) we asked the guy what would be a few good fish for the tank. He promptly sold us 2 TIGER OSCARS and 2 JACK DEMPSEYS! Being the uninformed fools we were we took the fish home. Needless to say, after going on line and doing some research (like I should've done BEFORE purchasing the fish :swear: ) I was stunned to learn that these baby fish would soon be needing a tank in excess of 200 gallons if I was going to keep them together. Many valuable lessons were learned that day. Props to you for doing the right thing, something many dealers don't do these days!
