What's wrong with people.

Yeah, workin a pet store in a college town is a great way to meet chicks...but it sucks having to tell them they can't get the fish

You did it wrong then. Just tell them when you get off you will come over to there house and fix their tank. There is always that aqward time after you go over to there house fix there tank and then leave though. :headbang2 like you were going to do anything with them
Waldo<---Tease

It will get much worse then that my freind. Tell them to go get a cat it will be less expensive to neglect and it's not like they are hard to come by.

The worst problem with chains is that they sell on a regular basis Large fish. There are less then 5 people in Spokane with a tank big enough for a pacu... however they are sold as a bread and butter fish rather then a big fish.

I'm starting a new Stupid Fish Cusomer or Stupid Store Owner thread.... Lets see who has the best story.

There isn't anything wrong with petco stores or petsmart stores. I don't know why people are dissing them. I agree that some store aren't run very well but that is because of the employees and the managers at the store.

Down with Petco! I manage at a lfs, and they just really dont seam to care about their fish at all. I think I big part of people having bad experiences with pet stores, is just burnt out emplyees. How many times can you have some fat lady walk you through all the tanks going "how big does this get" over and over without hating customers?

my local petco has the most healthy fish out of all the local lfs's.....

It all depends on the store and the employees. When I worked at Petsmart, I was the worst salesperson, because I always refuesd sales or convinced them not to buy something.

You have a 55g and want a pacu? Sorry.
You have a 30 and want an oscar? Nope.
You have a ten gallon and want ONE neon tetra? Nope. They school, one will be unhappy and stressed.
You want a bearded dragon? Are you gonna feed it 25-50 crickets a day when it is a juvie? No? BYE...

I could go on and on...

rock on man. I should say no more often. They'll fire me soon enough

You can refuse to sell any fish you want man. If they refuse to provide the animal with adequate living conditions, then I have the authority to refuse to sell anyfish I want to anybody I want and thats the bottom line. They can go talk to a manager but that won't help because the manager will always side with me.
i agree we just started our busy season at work and our managers had a meeting with us saying that they would back us 110% if someone tried to buy a fish that was too big for thier tank or too agressive it's all about making sure the fish is happy and healthy that is the responsibility of the owner ( and more owners need to do more research or just ask questions if theyre too lazy) last night there was a family that walked in they had a turtle tank, (aquatic) and they wanted to put some color into the tank. they were looking at poisin dart frogs ???? i tried to explain to them that the frogs were terestial and would at first drown in thier setup and secondlly make thier turtle sick but they didn't listen to what i was saying. so i let them talk to the guy in the reptile dept. he told them no! they wouldn't take no for an answer. the dumb @$$ wife ( who only spoke broken english (( not being racist but upset by the lack of understanding and communication)) ) pointed out the pauladrium we have as a display( which is a 100 gal with about 2 gal of water in it) said you can do it here why not us???? quietly throwing my hands up i took them to the store manager who looks like an ex- biker i can jog laps in his shadow and he politely showed them out of the store after i explained the situation i feel that my responsibility is toward the animals not the people after all i have more respect for the animals than i do most people talk to your managers find out if they are more interested in making sales or making happy homes for the livestock and if they are more interested in the money side of things start looking for a new place to work. don't put your job in jepordy, but find out how managment feels about this be honest find out if they will back you and go from there information and knowledge are the most important things in this hobby and kudos to you for doing the right thing!!
