This is what is concerning me. I don't know what it is at this point but if it turns out to be fin rot im going to toss my 180. I have never had problems with finrot in any of my other tanks but no matter what fish i put in my 180 it comes down with finrot. I've bleached the tank twice and medicated numerous times. This time i let the tank sit for ~ 2 months without fish after bleaching it.

So give me your opinions. Am i over reacting?

Shot taken the day i got him (last sunday)

Probably......just looks like a ragged fin to me.

My new young aro just recovered from ich and his fins were in a terrible state afterwards - 1 month later and they're fine. Personally I would just keep an eye on it and give it time, good food and good water quality.

I have read ( here http://www.fishyfarmacy.com/fish_diseases/fins.html ) that high pH can lead to damaged, frayed fins so worth testing and monitoring for pH stability.

Thanks

I probably should have mentioned that he is in a tank by himself though. I bought him with ragged fins, they started to heal and now they look as though they are rounding out or something.

I'll make sure to test the ph as soon as i can too.

Dosn't look bad, just add some salt to the tank. The arowanas tail will end up rounding out and looking whole.( thats what mine did ).

What kind of salt? epsom?

go to petsmart and get aquarium salt, comes in a cardboard containter, looks like those milk cartons.

Would melafix help? Or pimafix?

Would a UV sterilizer help too?

I dont understand how this keeps coming back, ive bleached the tank twice!

Melafix/pimafix may be useful if you feel its necessary but personally I would just see how it goes with the salt first.

I'm not convinced from the pics that you have any evidence of bacterial finrot disease. If you've recently sterilized and restarted your tank then you need to keep a close eye on water quality as it will obviously be cycling again, this may be more relevant.
