Anyone use crickets or grasshoppers . any good?

They are fantastic but have a huge flaw they break apart once you cast them and once hit they break apart .
If you fish off pier and tide is going out than you hook them tie to floater and let them go out with tide they are magnets for sun and bass you can cast them but many just fall apart. If you use dead ones they are gushy soft garbage that once touch the water crumble live ones will stay on hook much longer if you find some live try them you will get strikes but again best if you dont cast to much

cricket, worm and minnow.

I love crickets also but find real pain to keep on hook for any length of time and maybe once cast with them before they fall apart. You dont find that to be the case?
I use pet store crickets

I like earthworms but my ultimate favorite which recently tried one night and caught 3 bass (small) were roaches.
the roaches here are huge by roach standards infact some will fight back lol kidding.
Sunfish know how to pick them off the hook . Problem with roaches is same as crickets not the best for casting . Live ones are amazing for attracting fish. Hook the roach by 'hard" chest area .
The time I tried them it was cold 60s nothing was biting for anyone but for me they were hit every time . If you dont mind breeding large roaches you cant go wrong (its illegal here to sell/buy roaches thus I use Miami dumpster caught roaches)

i have used frogs and caught bid lmb, but my alltime favorite is like a 5 inch bluegill 5 feet under a bober.

i personally enjoy a little challenge in using artificial, and i usually still nail them, otherwise netting shiners with a seine net for pike is my second option
