Agree with anyone that said independent mom and pop shops...lots of good small locally owned places here in Des Moines with fresh ingredients.

Ones with tasty brew on tap, preferably local brewers and of course decent food but drink is more important then food IMHO because after a few it really doesn't matter anyways.

I love the Mexican ice cream trucks. Cheap prices plus good food.

Carrabas is really good for a chain but all my favorite places are hole in the wall or mom and pop stuff.

Breck's place is one of my favorites. Fresh cut steaks and unbeatable prices.

Rudy's BBQ? I stayed in Albuquerque for about two months in 2001 and there was a Rudy's BBQ across the street from my hotel. Probably knew every employee by name by the time I came home. I've mail-ordered their sauce a few times but it's been awhile.

The locally owned BBQ places in Aiken, South Carolina I went to were my favs but I couldn't tell you the names. Only been once and it's been a couple years.

BBQ? Now were talkin! My sister works at a place named Johnny Rebs, they are ok, I eat there often. I like Chris n Pits too. Lots of bbq places around where I live, but it gets expensive. Still havent tried Lucilles.
