what's your fishing pole setup

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My go to surf casting poles are my matching pair of 13ft custom wrapped extra heavy Nitros with ceramic guides strapped with 9/0's packed with 80lb mono backed with 50lb PowerPro.
I do have a old school 15ft custom wrapped Fenwick I love but don't fish with it too often these days.

For smaller game I fish a 10ft old school ugly packed with 15lbs.View attachment 1192056

Is that an ol'skool Pflueger reel?

You get good distance casting those from shore?

That would be a Penn Senator with Newell gearing and casting distance with practice close to a 100yds. They are probably the most common reel used for shore casting in my region

I like to see that.....most guys here on the East coast stick w/ over-sized Spinning reels for Surf.

How much weight do you need on those things to avoid backlash?

The gear being used really has more to do with the rugged bottom topography and the large species encountered. Frank Castle Frank Castle

For sliding, probably 8-10oz is average and for 6/0 and 9/0 reels even heavier. Here's a 12oz
