What's your "odd couple" (inseparable/not breeders)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My 11" Oscar and 4.5" IT Dat were good buddies in my 75 but I moved everything but the oscar out until I get a bigger tank for most my fish to go in.

My oddball pair would go to my 6" L91 (bought wounded, one eye) and 2.5" Botia Striata loach. I bought the loach not knowing it was supposed to be kept in a shoal (was told otherwise at the LFS). After finding out he shouldn't be kept singly, I tried to get rid of him but couldn't find him a home.

These two have been in a 30g community tank together with 5 tetras for 4 months, and have formed a good bond. I often can't find the loach and then see him pop from underneath the pleco's stomach as if the pleco is birthing him. lol. The pleco has always been very solitary and never leaves his cave, even at night (I watch him under moonlights). I am very surprised he allows the loach to cuddle right under him, but never seems to mind. Enough talk, here is a pic-

I would have to say my injured micky mouse platy that had a nipped tail and my two tiger barbs (The nipped tail was NOT from them!!!!!) The platy was about 1.5 - 2 in. The two beast6 tiger barbs were iwould say 2.5 - 3.0 in! They were in my 10g for 5 weeks until I moved up to a larger aquarium (55g you can see it if you click threads and type in "My 55g angelfish tank") then my fish selection hindered me on what I could put in there so Bye - Bye platys and tiger barbs. It was so sad because the tiger barbs often shared food with it and ALWAYS stayed by each others side i know this because one early morning I saw my zebra danio chasing my platy I was about to interfere when I noticed the tiger barbs came out of their fav. hiding hole they stayed in for most of the day with the platy and chased off the zebra danios or any other fish when the platy was being picked on!!!

Whoops you said pair and I talked about my trio!

They're both convicts, but they're a breeding lesbian pair. My oscar when he was alive was best buddies with a blood parrot.

Funny you mention zebra danios and MM platys- I have 3 dans that adopted 7 blue MM's into their "gang". Maybe it's because they're all similar size and color, but they're all a bunch of hooligans.

I have a good natured gold loach that is always chumming around with my very surly 4 line catfish. They swim side by side for hours on end and share the same tube. Cat won't tolerate any of the other 4 loaches, and will bust up the group looking for his pal.

There was also a feeder goldfish that ballooned into a 6" beast that never went anywhere without his tetra pal Bob. Goldie got so big, I had to move him over to my mom's pond, and Bob spent weeks looking for his friend :(

You know the "goldfish" in the picture is actually a BP. cichlid and the other one is a JD?

G'day,

these two hang out all the time, I am sure she tells him who to kill next....

no breeding....that I have seen, they just hang out.

cheers
