You can add an electrical device to the water system which wraps the copper pipe work and adds some ion?.. To the water and stops the lime scale sticking to things. My office runs a water softener which also softens my outside hot and cold taps for washing the car but softened water should not be used like this for fish.

yeah, i just graduated college and got laid off so i can't afford to add a water softener right now. my parents have said that they might have an extra one to give me, so we shall see.

Mine out of the tap is around 8.0 and my tank sits around 7.8 to 8.0 all the time.
I would think that the 5.5 is not a big worry on the rays rt now, but like most have said, its a problem that can happen in the filter. Will or could cause problems later for them. So I would say the coral in the filter will help you out..
Id place the coral in the filter, a few days do a water change and keep an eye on your ph.. you dont want it to spike to fast, but slowly come up. if you get it in the 6.5 range, that better. Id shoot for 7.0 but me, I would try and bring it up slowly..

Hi all, sorry forgot to get back about this after all your help, many thanks its fine now.

At first i added 2kg of course CC to the sump filter and left it for 3 days and during checking the PH, i slowly went up to just over 6, i waited a bit more to see if it would raise more but nothing so then i added another 1kg, then over the next couple of days it has gone up to around 7 which i am happy with.
I have done 3 water changes and all is great now, All param are still good and steady, and all fish just as happy:).

Thanks again for all the advice folks, its very much appreciated, i was real worryed if the CC would rasie it to fast but it has done it nice and slowly, and steady.
