Whats your preference on footprints?

Deep tanks are rarely seen. I have a hard time wanting anything less than 48 deep now. Salt water people like the taller tanks allot but having a larger foot print is super nice. Unfortunately they take up allot of room

They are rarer cause they not commonly sold and most average keepers use standard size tanks

The long ones look more impressive. If you have smaller fish (discus, etc) I'd go as long as you can and keep it to 18-24" deep and tall. For long fish though there are functional considerations that are more important than cosmetics.

For pure looks, a long tank looks the most impressive. To most people a long tank looks the biggest and makes you go wow. Tall tanks limit what kind of fish you can put in, but not long tanks.

If you're raising monster fish though like aros, you need a wide tank. Something at least 3 ft deep i mean. That's so they have enoigh room to turn and grow to full potential.

Height is the least important to me. Anything 2ft - 3ft is fine.

I think the ideal tank for me that could fit in my house would be 8' long, 4' wide and 30" tall. If i had more room i would get a longer tank but not any taller than 30" or 36". The taller you go, the harder it is to clean the tank.

x2 I agree.

I like both but prefer depth because of the fish I keep. My 6 x 3 looks almost like a box to me and I find myself wishing it was 2' longer. My ideal practical tank will be 12 x 6 x 3.

haha thats funny.

This is the exact size of my "dream" but practical tank as well. Awesome dimensions.

footprint.. but most of us are bias as we keep large fish. But I also prefer the footprint when dealing w/ planted tanks ect.. I LOVE a 40B for a "small" tank... even if your just putting a nice school of small fish in it and scapeing it ect it just imo looks nicer then say a standard 55 w/ 12" width. the extra 6" and more "boxy" look just appeals to me more then something more panoramic.
