I never said who, just that it had been done.
I was guessing a government.
Sorry i got the mouth size wrong, the basic concept i was attempting to convey is still intact.

As i said, their official classification is extinct in the wild.
They are still found in the wild, in arizona, but to the best of my knowlage they no longer live in their origional waters.

They're doing decently in the hobby though.

EDIT:
How much do they sell for at that LFS?

They are still found around the springs in El Rincon waterpark as recently as 2005..it is Skiffia francesae and Zoogoneticus tequila that are Extinct and have not been seen in the area no matter how hard one looks..The IUCN designation of EW (extinct in the wild) is not fully accurate and has not been updated to include post 1996 populations. The situation is however very serious and the fish may very well be fully extinct in the wild in a very short time..Actually it is more just a matter of time...

Sorry about that last post on this subject it was a bit more *****y than I thought..Unintended consequence of writing to quickly..

And do you think they will reply to this? and what will the answer might be? ^^ just a little curious ^^:nilly:

Doesn't matter Pacus are still illegal in this State.

obviously most fish are not illegal or protected for nothing...

but didnt we all kept certain species when we were young...i can remember me walking around water all the time, netting whatever i could and putting it in my tanks. including endangered species... :D

ppl should just mind their business if you don't like it than turn away. nobody is forcing you to look at the fish. dumping illegal fish is another story. I don't know why ppl would dump fish that was hard to get but in the end I think ppl who introduced non native species to feed others did more damage than any hoobyist.

I'm very glad to hear that the EW classification is (barely) false.
Now if the bass just stay away from those springs.... :D

It's unfortunate Pacus are illegal in that area, as that really does look rather Pacuish (i'm hardly an expert, but it looks like it's lacking the jaw/muscles of a piranha), i generally enjoy it when a government gets up on it's high and mighty horse like that and then gets shot down due to incorrect information.

No offence taken, i've been there and done that too :)

im jealous of them
until they get caught or their fish dies.
then i dont care
