what's your worst purchase

I would have to say my Oscar. Killed almost any new tank mates. I feel sad for my 2 clown knifes may they rest in peace

I bought what appeared to be a baby JD to keep with my 3 other jd babies (around 2-3 inches long) 1 week later it turned into a brilliant red and Very aggressive jewel cichlid and killed all but my strongest JD which was about double his bulk

I'd say that my worst purchase was a spotted African lungfish because it managed to drown itself in 6" of water despite having plants at the surface on one end of its aquarium for it to rest on...

Wait, what? Lungfish don't need land to walk around on. Was there no way for the lungfish to get air?

6 - Lake Tefe green discus, wild caught. Stunning adults. Had a 125 that was stable with other discus in it for 8 months. Moved the other discus in preperation of the arrival of my new greens. All was awesome. Started eating the next day and by that night they were all out swimming together. I was floored. Fast forward a week and I'm at work and the wife calls all freaked out. I thought one of the kids was hurt or something. She says all of your new discus are dead not dieing..DEAD. that was at 10 am. 4 hours before they were asleep in the corner and the tank was fine. I broke into tears and my boss was like who died, whats up, what happened. I told him my discus died and him knowing me for what I am..a total addict..let me go home. I did every possible test, checked every possible thing, called every fish head I knew, interrogated my wife like she was a criminal and to this day I have no idea why those fish all died at the same time. Those fish at the time cost me 125 each and that was in 1986.

my worst purchase was a green spotted puffer. I had it in the aquarium for about a week and everything seemed fine. Then i started noticing that some of the fish were missing eyes so one day i was watching the fish for like an hour and i saw the damn puffer bite the eye off one of my plecos. soon all 10 of my fish were dead and i ended up with one fish. It killed everything including an australian arowana. I had a separate tank with a huge pacu and i fed the puffer to it and the pacu ate it and almost immediately flipped over and floated to the bottom and the puffer swam out of its mouth. This was stupid but at the time i didn't know the puffer could do that.

Imo puffers have a poison gland in them.

Aligator Gar hands down! Here's the thing...maybe in theory it should grow slowly (that's what the research said anyway). The problem is, he had tank mates so we had to keep him well fed...so he grew A LOT and quickly. We ended up trading him in for one tiny pleco at our LFS! But the reality is, at 36" long, just having them take him off our hands was a smokin' deal for us!

I bought a bichir although am enjoying it. I thought it was the worst decision made but is one of the best
