Goldfish for my ten gallon... It was supposed to be temporary but they lasted about a week. Otherwise I've done okay so far but we'll see how long my tetras last with my new Notopterus...
I bought a pacu from Petco during my early years of fish keeping. I told the "fish specialist" that I had a 55 gallon and he told me it would be fine in there full grown. When I bought it, it was only a few inches long. I got home, acclimated the pacu, and put it in my tank. Within a few days I noticed that some of my previously healthy fish had ick and and fin rot. I returned the fish to Petco and have never bought from there again. I learned 2 important lessons that day. 1) never listen to salesman, do your research first and 2) quarantine all new fish. I ended up treating the tank and all my fish made a full recovery.
Not something I did. But when I was little 'Santa' set up a 10 gallon tank in the living room with 2 african clawed frogs and 3 goldfish. I woke up christmas morning to 3 goldfish with missing tails and 2 very fat frogs. Santa shouldn't have listened to those guys at Walmart. Had those frogs for about 5 years until they escaped.

About 10 years ago or so I bought a pair of motoro rays (not cheap back then). The rays wernt the bad part, its what happened 6 months later. My lovley wife and i were going out on a friday night, and she decides to iron clothes before we go out. For some unknown reason she used the spare outlet the tank was plugged into. So we go out and tie one on and sleep in kinda late. I woke up to find my rays in the death curl. She unplugged the iron and bumped the tank cord just right so everything turned off.
